back in touch.
There are three main adjustment points on
a door: the hinges, the
strike plate
or keeps/receivers, and
the door
handle/ knob. By adjusting these points,
you can get most doors working properly
again. So let’s take a closer look at each of
these adjustment points.
Warning!
If you leave a troublesome door too long
this will cause damage to the knob/handle
and will eventually damage your locking
mechanisms gearbox resulting in lock
failure.
The hinges are what allow a door to swing
open and close. On wooden doors if the hinges are beginning to rub
and bind
against the frame or the door is sticking, you may need to adjust
the hinges or the door,
On composite and uPvc doors there should
be an ever gap around the door and frame and
all new installs should be adjusted about 6
weeks after install once the door has
settled, over time general wear and tear
takes effect and the door misaligns mostly
due to constant use or being left open in
the summer months without support. In most
cases adjustment this can be done from the
hinge itself or if it was poorly installed
additional frame fixings may be needed and
or adjustment of the
strike plate, keeps/receivers.
The strike plate is the metal plate that
is mounted to the door frame and is where
the latch or bolt of the door catches when
the door is closed. Keeps/receivers are
where the top and bottom hooks/bolts engage.
on newer locking mechanisms if your
hooks/bolts aren't fully engaged the your
door will not lock leaving your door
unsecure.
If your door is not latching or bolting
properly, it may be due to the strike plate
or keeps/receivers
being misaligned. Please note that this is a
relatively easy process if you have the
right tools and know how, but if in doubt
call Liver Bird Locks.

isn’t closing properly, you may need to
